Mantle Art

I just had to share this.

A few weeks ago, I rearranged the furniture (again). I moved the mirror that I had on the mantle to the wall, then was left with nothing above the fireplace. Lauren's art has really been evolving, and I love watching what she does to express herself in that way. I decided to hire her to do a piece for over the mantle. We laid out a big piece of paper on the floor, with the paints. I asked her to paint our family. There was only a little bit of paint to clean up on the floor, and after the picture dried, I framed it in a simple matted frame.  She was thrilled when she saw her art that way, as the centerpiece of our home. She was really proud.

 Here was the result:

Our family portrait, from left to right is Hannah, Dave, Lauren and Me. Below is Milo and Odin with his huge floppy ears. Her people haven't evolved to have arms or bodies yet, but that's what I love about it. It always makes me smile when I look at it.

  1. Lauren's picture is amazing! She is going to be very artistic, like her mother. She is obviously a happy little girl; her characters are always smiling! She chooses the most interesting colours for each character, and arranges them artistically. I can't wait to frame the picture she did of me, Grandma Judy, for Valentines Day! And her snail, too. I'm going to have collages of all the artwork both my girls send me. You're so right when you say it always makes you smile when you look at it. (I do have little teeny arms on mine, though!)
